Additional Information: A deep dark blue transfer-decorated shell border soup tureen
with cover, decorated with a view of “Dix Cove on the Gold Coast Africa”. Oval footed
form with molded open foliate handles; molded flower finial. Title printed in underglaze-
blue [under base].

Measurement: Height: 6.75"

Material: Pearlware with Luster

Condition: Minor restoration to spout.

Additional Information: Extremely rare pearlware, black transfers with luster, and
enamel decoration on both sides and under spout. Each side displays a large eagle
perched on cannon surrounded by an American flag and floral sprigs, beneath the
inscription "ARMS OF THE UNITED STATES" and above a banner inscribed "E
PLURIBUS UNUM;" and inscribed beneath the spout "FREE TRADE AND SAILORS
RIGHTS" within a foliate cartouche incorporating flags and military trophies, the neck
surrounded by a yellow border, banded in pink luster. Probably Enoch Wood, this
transfer is recorded by Arman as, “previously unrecorded”.

Material: Pearlware, medium blue printed transfer

Condition: Very good original condition

Literature: See Arman, Anglo American Ceramics, p. 124, L-4 and L-5.

Additional Information: Extremely rare bulbous picture with molded spout; three
portraits of Lafayette by Andrew Stevens. Partial verse centering portrait under spout,
otherwise both sides read: “Gen,L La Fayette was born at Auvergne in France: at 19 he
arrived in America in a ship furnished at his own cost in 1777 and volunteered in our
army as major Gen.L – At Brandywine he was wounded but refused to quit the field he
assisted the army with 10000 from his own purse and kept in service until our
independence was sealed and country free. In 1784 he returned to France loaded with
the honors and gratitude of the AmerN people. In 1824 the congress unanimously
offered a ship for his return he declined the honor but landed from the Cadamus at N.Y.
Aug.T 13th 1824 amid the acclamations of 60000 freeman.”
