Antique Spoon Rack Above Cutlery or Candle Box, Original Surface History
America, Likely New England - SOLD
White Pine
Green-painted…a large shaped and carved spoon rack with box, the shaped back
featuring prominently arched crest supporting three slotted racks fitted for eighteen
spoons, the box is of dovetail joinery. It appears that during the boxes early working life
it was overpainted black…now worn and scrubbed revealing original green paint. In very
good original condition with one minor imperfection that does not distract; back inside
corner of dovetailed box (proper right) is missing a wedge of wood due to shrinkage and
resistance against nail; a tin make-do strap was affixed to the outside corner with tiny
square headed nails. The box displays very well.
(Height: 26.75"; width: 13.5"; depth: 5.5")

Additional Information: The backboard with applied pierced spoon-rail joining
down sloping sides and front fitted with single drawer. The interior
displays generations of use…gentle wear.

Antique Wall Box, Original Red Paint Date/Period: 1800-1830 - SOLD
Condition: Very good…commensurate with age and use. An iron
wire was neatly inserted through the sides and clinched
above the piercing for hanging ensuring the integrity of
the wood above piercing. This was absolutely done during
the boxes early working period and is nifty…looks to have
been there forever.
Additional Information: The box with shaped backboard displays
a wonderful red surface with traces of very early
black…great patina.
