Additional Information: A group of three early oval boxes being of clinched-tack and
wooden peg construction; finely made…tapered fingers feature canted edges; box with
half-finger was made that way. Reddish brown color, full coverage, dry patina. Each lid
is vinegar grained in large cursive script reading “Ginger”, “Coffee”, “Spice”.

A must unusual and pleasing form with weighted lid [cast lead finial] featuring four-color
decoration. The interior is in clamshell white paint. Possibly a spice, sugar or small
chestnut urn or part of a garniture set. Displays well, minor seam splits near rim,
scatters small areas of paint loss; interior is grungy with light surface rust limited to
bottom. (Height: 8.25")
