pinback header, attached to medal via the original clawfoot hanger. Reverse inscribed

SEAMAN OF THE / BRITISH DESTROYER WISHART / IN RECOGNITION OF HIS
HE- / ROIC SERVICES IN EFFECT- / ING THE RESCUE AT SEA, / ON MARCH 14,
1934, OF / THE COMMANDER AND CREW / OF THE BURNING UNITED / STATES
GUNBOAT / FULTON.

A rare and desirable governmental lifesaving award, clearly carefully worn many
times over the years by its recipient. This issue holds the distinction of being the only
gold Mint medal struck in .900 fine gold, as used on the standard coinage, while other
issues were generally in pure gold. With original box of issue.
