Diminutive Early William & Mary Table, Rare Small Size, New England Date/Period: 1700-1720
Measurement: Height: 21.5"; top: 28.25" x 16.25", posts ate 1.75” in diameter

Condition: Very good, full height; fissures to top, cleats added to underside of top
Additional Information: Rectangular top having molded edges projecting over a plain
apron raised on robustly turned legs joined by molded stretchers. Traces of early red
paint are more prevalent on underside.
Ramblings: This table is related to early tavern and/or worktable forms however this
table is unique in its diminutive scale. The well-used top, darkened with age and
use…displaying the vestiges of time suggests that it may have been used at the hearth
facilitating food preparation. Nutting displays a small table standing at 22-inches that he
suggests may have been used to serve coffee or tea. The full foot survival may speak to
a static position rather than being dragged around a sandy tavern floor for many
decades.
