A small boy astride a donkey holding thin whip; the boy wears a stripped skirt and pantaloons, boots and a slouch hat while the donkey with a careworn expression. Stamped brass mat, stamped leather case missing top half; dag in good condition other than significant tarnish and a couple of tiny green spots on plate...really should be dipped or cleaned.

An exceedingly rare image…the subject wearing a chinstrap beard and gold watchchain
holds an octant that appears to be ebony with an ivory Vernier, pencil and nameplate;
he is seated at a table covered with a paisley cloth. The image is housed within a
Florence Manufacturing Company [Florence, Massachusetts] case.

Measurement: 3.5" x 3.75" x .75"
Material: Thermoplastic
Condition: Displays well, front and back moldings and corners are perfect; cracks to
side cove molding and quarter-inch loss to bottom right cove molding of front cover.
Back cover is perfect as is label. Embossed velvet cover liner is missing.
Additional Information: Featuring a bust of Henry Clay within a wreath, reverse with
12 rows of lettering; birth and death dates, political accomplishments. Interior retains
label: F. C. Key & Son, Manufacturers of the Excelsior Ambrotype Case, Philadelphia,
PA. Makers initials under bust of Clay.
Label: F.C. KEY & SON Are the Original Inventors of the INSERTED HINGE AND
CATCH, far superior to all others, being im-bedded in the case when pressed, and
warranted not to break out or spring, as do all others that are riveted, or inserted with or
without a metal brace.
