Brass Pivoting Arm or Crane
With sliding hanging device
English or Dutch
Early 19th century



A lovely cast filed, finished and pierced arm with removable sliding hook for hanging a small bottle jack or other kitchen implement. (Back-plate measures 7.25 by 3 5/8-inches; length of arm: 10.75-inches.)

17th Century Dutch Tile
Possibly Representing Peter Stuyvesant
Governor of New Amsterdam



The tile depicts a man in typical 17th century attire with a long walking stick and a wooden leg within an accolade border having ox-head corner decoration. The body is buff and the decoration is in blue on a tin glaze. There is considerable chipping along the edges and the surface of the tile is pockmarked.
Peter Stuyvesant (1612-1672) was a Dutch military hero who lost his leg fighting in the West Indies. He is best known in this country as the Governor of New Amsterdam. (Approximately 5-inches x 5-inches x ½-inch.)
