Andirons
With extremely rare and unique Masonic decoration
New England
Early 19th Century
Hand Forged Iron and Copper

This pair of inspired and successful andirons were obviously made by a proud Mason or for a Mason or Masonic lodge. The ironwork is forged rather than mill rolled; the incredible compass and square is also forged and is attached to the vertical element. The blacksmith created scrolled returns beneath the Masonic decoration that are shaped and have a pleasing, thin leading edge profile. The gracefully arched legs of perfect proportion are twisted adding motion as they segue to the scrolled feet. The overall height is 20-inches, with the billet length being 21-inches; the incredible compass and square is approximately 7-inches by 9.25-inches.
