Rare Pair of Brass & Brass Ball-Topped Andirons
Newport, RI
3rd Quarter of the 18th Century



Having ball finials over bulging columnar shafts over plinths with circular bosses, supported by spurred cabriole legs, terminating in ball & claw feet with matching log stops. This type of andiron found in original families of the Newport area. See Schiffer, The Brass Book, pg. 71A. Note: professional repair to one andiron between upper shaft and ring. The andirons measure 20.5-inches in height.
