Miniature portrait of Mary Jane Smith (b. 1788), in an oval gilt brass frame on ebonized wood mount.
Attached to the back is a piece of paper that reads "Mary Jane Smith / born Dec. 11th 1788, / daughter of Mr Mrs Richard Smith / of Northampton wife of / --- Peltford / Grandmother of Irene J. Phipson / Original (inscribed in blue ink)" [Mary Jane's husband was Edward Peltford]. The paper is toned but otherwise remains in very good condition.
