Cased Colt Pocket Revolver
Model 1849 with 4-inch barrel
Manufactured 1859 - SOLD


This pistol having all matching serial numbers 156461 throughout including wedge, trigger guard and backstrap is mechanically fine. Pistol retains 75% original silver plating; grips are very good with a few minor nicks, marked "ADDRESS SAM'L COLT / NEW YORK CITY" on top of barrel, engraving on cylinder is very sharp, traces of bluing-perhaps 30%, case lined with plum colored velvet; shrinkage crack along top of case, iron bullet mold marked "COLT'S / PATENT," flask depicts eagle snaring rabbit, original Colt marked tool and bullet mold. A yellowed index card indicates that "...this pistol was used by Captain Hay on a blockade runner, in the Civil War, running cotton...in 1861." There was a Captain Hay, commander of a blockade-runner who was captured off the Bahamas by the Union Navy in 1861. The case measures approximately 2-inches by 11-inches by 5.75-inches.
