Tall Chest, Blanket Chests, Chests of Drawers

Maple with pine sides

Crown molding above a case containing six overhanging, thumb molded, graduated drawers raised on applied bracket base. Condition: generally excellent with only one spur on left proper rear foot restored; brasses have been replaced in the original borings; old refinish. (Height: 54.5 inches; width: 39.75 inches; depth: 20.25 inches)

The rectangular lid with applied molding above deep well and two long drawers raised on tall shapely bootjack ends; the front joined by elegant drapery-like valenced bottom rail with half-round drop at center. Wide brush strokes of black paint within arched borders against field of red decorate the front; sides and lid with similar decoration. The brasses are replaced with all else fine. (Height: 44.25 inches; width: 42.5 inches; depth: 18.25 inches.)

With a bold overhanging serpentine shaped top above four graduated drawers; and diminutive size; the whole raised on a bold scrolled bracket base with dipped front apron having superb returns. A rare and desirable form created by a provincial craftsman from the Upper Connecticut River Valley, possibly as far north as Vermont; the chest shows design influences of the area from Hartford, Connecticut to North Hampton, Massachusetts. Minor restoration to left side of base and replaced knobs with all else fine. (Dimensions: 36.5-inches high, 36-inch case width, 18 1/8-inch case width, 42.5 by 21.5-inch top.)

Excellent original paint and condition; brasses appropriately replaced in original borings. (Height: 45.75 inches; width: 40.25 inches; depth: 19 inches.)
