Long-Billed Curlew Decoy
Long Island, New York, Circa 1890-1900
- SOLD
Softwood, carved, original hardwood bill, original paint, pristine condition, 9 by 19 by 1.75-inches.

Stylistically, this curlew bears a relationship to the work of Eugene "Chief" Cuffee (1866-1941) of the Shinnecock Reservation near South Hampton on Long Island. The retention of the exceedingly delicate original sicklebill is remarkable as is the strong folk aesthetic.
