Rare Combination I, VIII, and XVIII Corps Badge - SOLD![]() A particularly fine and unusual silver GAR Corps badge, having the simple circle of the I Corps mounted upon the six-pointed VIII Corps star that is mounted upon the XVIII Corps trifoliate cross. The circle is engraved "61[sic]; obverse is engraved "Wm. T. Fay"; letters "MVM" are engraved respectively in the left, right, and bottom arms of the XVIII Corps cross. There is a small hole punched into the top of the cross; VIII Corps star has decorative engraving; pin back on the reverse. This may be from the Civil War period, but since corps badges were worn to identify troops in the field, it seems unlikely that a man would have worn three corps badges simultaneously. More likely a proud veteran had it made after the war, possibly as a watch fob. |
