Pair of Federal Period Portraits
Fashionable New England Couple
Circa 1820

The woman with tortoise shell comb in her curled hair wears an early empire style dress with shirred sleeves and bodice and a beautifully rendered starched snow-white lace collar. The man wears a coat with a large rolled collar, white cravat, starched wing collar, and a cock's comb hairdo. Both paintings have been cleaned and relined and are housed in appropriate early frames. (Approximately 33-inches x 28-inches x 3-inches framed, view area approximately 27 ½-inches x 22 ½-inches.)

With Pictorial Stemmed Wine Glass Inlays

The rectangular top with a shaped and banded front above a conforming case fitted with two central drawers, each with sting and oval-panel inlays flanked either side by ovolo cupboards with conforming inlays above figured cross-banded inlay raised on square tall tapered legs...the four front legs inlayed with an overlapping husk pattern above a stemmed wine glass inlay; string-inlay and banded cuffs complete the embellishment of legs. (White pine secondary wood; original brasses and hardware. Height: 39.75 inches; Length: 64.25 inches; Depth: 22.25 inches.)
