An excellent example of Edouart silhouettes. Features full figure silhouettes of a man and woman with clipped hand written note pasted below the figures identifying them as "Mr. & Mrs. Wm. F. Homer of Boston / illegible / Saratoga 20th July 1844." The back of the frame is covered with glass beneath which the mat has been cut to reveal further handwritten information identifying the individual figures in two different hands. Housed in a period, possibly original gilt frame. Very good condition with only some light toning along the edges and minor gilding imperfections. Listed as "Holmes" on page 527 of Auguste Edouart's Silhouettes of Eminent Americans 1839 - 1844.

This dramatic picture depicts the sun setting over Baltimore Harbor as viewed from the northwest either from Locust or Fells Point looking toward the Inner Harbor. The sun is about where the Harbor Court Hotel is today; to the left of the viewer is Federal Hill and Fort McHenry with the city of Baltimore in the background. Men stand and sit on docks facing the vibrant sunset illuminating the roiling clouds scudding over the city and the active harbor.

A FEDERAL MAHOGANY OCTAGONAL
TILT-TOP CANDLE STAND

NORTH SHORE, MASSACHUSETTS
CIRCA 1790

This successfully proportioned stylish candle stand features a vibrant mahogany top with a rosewood cross-banded edge and a central flame birch panel within a geometric border. The top pivots on two mahogany batons and is secured in the horizontal position with a circular brass latch which is original to the table. The top is raised on a ring turned post with a delicate laurel wreath carved central vase; this specific leaf decoration is a motif used by Salem carvers including Samuel McIntire. The post joins three delicate slender tapering scrolled spider legs with geometric inlaid cuffs. The table is in excellent condition with a fine old surface that may be original. A small fissure in the top has been reinforced with an inset Dutchman in the back. Mahogany with birch block and light and dark wood inlays. (Height with top up 41; dimensions of top: 22 x 14 7/8-inches; height with top down 29-inches.) Mahogany with birch block and light and dark wood inlays.

A Fine and Rare
Federal Inlaid Mahogany Sofa
New York
Circa 1800

This handsome Hepplewhite eight leg sofa has superb proportions and is in amazing original condition. The mahogany frame, which has wonderfully detailed lightwood inlays, has flowing serpentine arms and square tapered legs. The crest rail with line inlay has bellflowers at the corners and a central panel decorated with draped links of chain and graduated bellflowers. The front legs have line inlaid edges and banded cuffs with graduated bellflowers at center. The outer legs are decorated with an inlaid classical urn with tropical foliage. The rear legs have gentle reverse curves. Constructed of mahogany, lightwood veneers; maple and white pine secondary woods. The sofa is in wonderful original condition, with a nice dry surface. Two similar New York sofas can be found in "American Antiques in the Israel Sack Collection", Vol. VII, page 1963 and at Sotheby's sale 8152 January 24-25, 2009, Lot 172.

A Rare American Dumbwaiter
Mahogany...two-tiered stand
Massachusetts, probably New Bedford
CIRCA 1810-20.

This attractive stand features exceptional figured mahogany and a revolving top with reeded edge tiers separated by turned brass balusters. The top rests upon a ring turned post with pineapple caved central urn all on squared spider legs with brass casters. The piece is constructed of mahogany and lightwood veneers with maple and white pine secondary woods. (Heights: 43-inches; width: 21.5-inches.)
