A rare painted box with mourning scene; the rectangular box in black enamel having gold gilt initials on the top-SR- above a conforming case raised on small turned feet; the interior lined with blue-glazed paper. The front panel with grassy hillocks, a funerary monument centered by willow trees against a clouded sky. Fine original condition. (Height: 6 inches; width: 8.25 inches; depth: 6.25 inches.)
