Chippendale Dresser Box...with mirror
Inlayed mirror frame...shaped crest
and compass star

This small box with single long drawer is veneered and has a lovely six-pointed compass star inlay on top of case. The incised and tapered mirror stiles are topped with brass urn finials; finely dovetailed drawer has a kite shaped bone escutcheon; lock works and key is included. The case rests on ogee feet. Constructed of mahogany, deal and light wood inlay; some minor veneer lifting and small losses, overall very good. (19 ½-inches high by 12-inches wide by 6 ½-inches deep.)

A pair of brass columnar urn-top andirons standing at 24-inches.
Each with flame-on-urn final above tapered columnar standards on a stepped plinth raised on arched and spurred cabriole legs having ball and claw feet. The iron log rests are 18.5-inches in length.

Remaining in spectacular original condition with brilliant paint; centered by Czar Alexander and his wife depicted with eagle placing wreaths on their heads.
The Cyrillic inscriptions on columns relate to war and peace. Dated 1814...the year that the Army of Russia and allies entered Paris forcing Napoleon's abdication.

Metal Tobacco Box
With Hidden Erotic Painting
First half-19th century



A tinned sheet iron tobacco box, japanned on sides and bottom with enameled painting of a "Farmer's daughter" wearing a straw hat, off the shoulder blouse, carrying a sheaf of wheat and a hand scythe, looking alluringly over her shoulder. Inside the box is a panel with an enamel painting of a couple frolicking, with the male being distracted by a cat attempting to protect the woman by sinking its claws into his exposed backside. "25 d" is written on the other side of the panel. The interior is coated with a copper colored paint. There are two areas showing paint loss on the interior panel, though neither is located near the "action." The painting on the exterior shows wear around the outer edges but is otherwise very good. There is some rust on the exterior and a ¼-inch split on the lip of the lid.

The handle is forged into flat and round sections; the round...is slightly swelled and decorated with filed turnings. The handle is ornamented with scrolled rams horn, a shaped swaged area centers the heart. The lower shaft is flattened and splits into two round tines. The length is 21-inches.

19th Century Chippendale Style Miniature Tea Table

Miniature tea table with Chippendale style pedestal in baluster form. It has cabriole legs with pad feet; very good condition overall, with light scratches to the tabletop; the block is cracked and repaired with hand cut screws. This little table measures 6.5-inches in height, and the top has a diameter of 9.5-inches.

Unique Tinsmith Presentation Medal and Box



This fabulous example exemplifying the art of the tinsmith measures approximately 3 1/4 by 1 1/4 inches, and fits into a 3 5/8 by 2 1/4 inch box with slide top and chased decoration, that is lined with the blue paper that was associated with high quality merchandise. The medal is beautifully handcrafted of copper with a soldering iron; tin shears and a tinker's hammer surrounding the letters "JS". A rectangular lozenge above the tools contains a piece of red glass perhaps suggesting a ruby associated with 40 years of service.

Traveling Lantern Alarm Clock
By John Payne (1731-1735), Lenham
Mid-18th Century


     

This small British timepiece with arch dial and applied Rocco spandrels centered by a silvered disk engraved with makers name within the arch. The face, also with lovely cast Rocco spandrels surrounding the engraved and enameled chapter ring that frames the dial center which is decorated by a double quietly elegant trailing vines and foliate engraving in the center of which is the alarm setting disk. This clock is sold with a hanging shelf of undetermined age; for display and use as depicted. Mechanically fine and having a height of 8.5-inches.
