Competently carved...wing and tail feathers scratch-carved, and detailed with black painted tips. The work is fitted on wire-rod raised on turned circular base. The bird measures approximately 5.5-inches in length and is 3.25-inches in width; overall height is 8-inches.

Painted Folk Art Snake
Early 20th Century



The folk artist who created this root snakes took advantage of the natural, undulating form of tree root. With minimal carving the artist painted a convincing and colorful snake in predominately mustard and black. This root snake retains its original paint and is in excellent condition. The carved head is complete with tin tongue. Dimensions: 65.75-inches long.
