Wooden Blacksmith's Trade Sign
J.S. Kerstead
19th Century - SOLD

Wooden blacksmith's trade sign with the smithy's name, J. S. Kerstead, carved and painted white; applied carved wooden blacksmith's hammer and tongs and a pair of horse shoes also painted white set against the background with traces of black paint. Original square nailed molding conforms to top, peak and sides remain intact; it appears that there was originally a molding on the bottom edge which is long gone. A portion of the upper handle of the tongs is missing as is the upper edge of one shoe. This is truly an old and honest sign...well weathered and showing great character. (69 ½-inches long x 22-inches high x 1 ¼-inches deep.)
