A Wonderful Large D-Guard
Confederate Bowie Knife
Made from file...original tin mounted sheath
Point Clear, Alabama

This example is 20-inches in length and has a 13.5-inch slightly upturned clip-point blade that was made from a file. The guard is unique with its "S" curve quillon and back swept curve at pommel. The grip is carved of walnut and has a superb patina; there is a tight shrinkage fissure at grip rivets and one rivet cap is missing...minor imperfections hardly worth mentioning. The original leather sheath is sound however, there is a 1-inch tear at center as depicted. This knife was purchased from the great nephew of Harvey Beardan (1831-1903) who was a blacksmith in Chilton County, Alabama and a member of Company F, 44th Alabama Infantry. (Wounded at Gettysburg.)
(Other information available to purchaser.) A superb knife in all respects.
