An Extremely Uncommon Gun Case
Dovetailed and molded case in paint...
Early Nineteenth Century
Found in New York State - SOLD

The lid with molded edge is shaped; conforming to long arm architecture.
Brass hinges are secured to lid and case by early screws with no gimlet point suggesting that this case was assembled before 1837. The painted surface has a dry patina and appears to be original; black and blue pigment with the back of case being painted a soft-gray. Its use may have been on buckboard or….secure firearm storage within a home or business space whereas there is a lock and countersunk screw apertures on base. The interior has been relieved to accept the lock-plate and trigger guard. Length: 57 inches; depth: 8.5 inches; height: 4 inches.)
