Eagle Pommel Sword
Made for American Market

The rococo form knuckle guard indicates that this is a post War of 1812 sword, probably of German / French manufacture for the American market. The eagles on the langet, though adorned with the traditional shield, olive branch, and arrows, seem more closely related to the French Imperial eagle of France than to the traditional American eagle. The blade is partially blued and gilded with a central engraved motif of cannon, lances, and other military accoutrements. There are typical cracks in the bone handle and some slight nicks along the edge of the blade. No scabbard. Approximately 34-inches long.
