Parker Field Hudson Bay Trade Gun
Manufactured Circa 1860
Includes notarized letter from Thomas Aspend of Colville, Washington, dated October 19, 1936
Mr. Aspend indicates that he had owned the gun for a long period of time, having acquired it from a Mr. Adam Arnold, gunsmith, who had received the rifle from a Hudson's Bay Co. trapper named Septus Chaudier. Mr. Arnold was a United States licensed gunsmith of Ft. Colville, Washington, and prior to that time he took care of and repaired all the fowling pieces belonging to the Hudson Bay Company which was first established at Marcus, Washington in 1825. Mr. Arnold, a reclusive sort, traded the gun to Mr. Aspend for an aluminum frying pan. Mr. Aspend states that the gun was very accurate and that he had taken a brown bear with a single shot.
(The hearsay information regarding the previous use of the gun at the Battle of Quebec was obviously romance added probably by the trapper Septus Chaudier.)
