Mixed Media Carved and Inlaid Cane
A.F. Warren
Perth, New York - SOLD

We hypothesize that A.F. Warren was a logger whereas Perth, NY is a logging area and because of the fantastic inlaid peavey. (An implement consisting of a wooden shaft with a metal point and a hinged hook near the end, used to handle logs.)
This folk art cane has a spherical pommel or grip/handle above octagonal to fluted to notched to round shaft terminating with a brass ferrule cleverly made from a small gauge brass bullet shell. Scratch carved in a single panel of the octagonal collar is the name, A.F. Warren; in another panel is Perth; a brass inlaid anvil centering 5-pointed incised stars and the steel and wood inlaid peavey in another...three panels of fine checkering centered by panels inlaid with canoe paddles with another ornamented with four inlaid hearts. Great color and patina. Length: 36-inches.
