Beautiful Siblings
Watercolor On Ivory
By Clarissa Peters Russell (1809-1854) - SOLD

Miniaturist Clarissa Peters Russell, wife of Boston miniaturist Moses B. Russell is known for her delicate depictions of children...she produced works of exceptional clarity, luminosity, and color. Typical of this hand are lifelike large eyes, full lips and color palate. The contrast of the hatched slate-blue and brown background and the young girls bright pink dress and the boys deep blue jacket with gold buttons produces an immediate presence which is further enhanced by subtle details and the bold use of color such as the bright green upholstered chair.

View size measures 4 by 5-inches; the period frame which was reduced in size measures 6 by 7-inches.

IN MEMORY OF GEN. GEORGE WASHINGTON AND HIS LADY
Watercolor on paper
Probably Hartford, Connecticut
By N. Baldwin
Circa 1820 - SOLD

Remaining about as bright and vibrant as the day it was executed and in generally excellent condition; mounted in what appears to be the original gilt frame with double brass ring and wire hanging devices. Research by a previous owner indicates that the work is after Samuel Seymour’s engraving of the same title, which was published by J. Savage at Philadelphia circa 1804 then again circa 1814. This outstanding piece measures 17 by 21-inches.
