Biscuit Box, Silver Plate and Brass, Book Form

Circa 1878



Box mounted with brass ribbon and latch raised on ball feet; the tooled lid opens to reveal a second lid which is pierced. This box which is hallmarked remains in fine original condition with about full coverage silver. (Height: 4.25 inches; width: 8.5 inches; depth: 6 inches)

Coin Silver Presentation Cup
"W. H. Renaud Sep. 4th, 1869"
With Bust of Stonewall Jackson

Circa 1869



This silver presentation cup, with applied handle, features a bas relief profile of General Stonewall Jackson on front and is engraved on rim "W. H. Renaud Sep. 4th, 1869." The cup is marked on bottom "E. A. TYLER / NEW ORLEANS," dimples, overall very good. William H. Renaud was a member of the Company C [Ellison's] Confederate Guards Regiment who also served in Fender's Battery during the Civil War. In 1861 he is listed in the NOLA City Directory as an accountant. He eventually became a successful businessman.
E. A. Tyler was a jeweler and watchmaker on Canal Street who also advertised "silver and plated ware" but apparently was a retailer and not a silversmith.

Octagonal George III Silver Teapot and Footed Undertray

Circa 1787



Ivory handle, domed lid with ivory pineapple finial, chased decoration on teapot and stand. London 1787-88 hallmarks and "BM" with a pellet between letters. Footed undertray in excellent condition; teapot has four small but obvious dimples on side and old repair to octagonal spout.

As depicted, applied foliate molded "S"-scroll handle and wide curved spout with applied band of cast and chased decoration above flared collar; the shoulder ringed with cast, chased and applied band...pear shape body ornamented with applied band of chased floral decoration; flared and banded trumpet shape pedestal resting on a square plinth base with paw feet. This pot weighing 25.7-troy ounces is 8.75-inches in height and bears the maker's marks, twice, under base "BAILEY & KITCHEN" -; Ensko: 241. Also, with American Coin Standard mark for .900 fine (Small family monograms; fine condition.)

An important American War of 1812 related Empire silver presentation coffee pot, mark of JVM, Paris, 1809-19, of amphora form, chased with a vine border, engraved on one side "Presented to Commodore G. W. Rodgers by Hon. Albert Gallatin 1816," the spout tip cast as a lion's head, raised on incurved supports headed by stiff leaves and ending in paw feet, the cover surrounded by an anthemion leaf border and with bud knop, treen handle, "JVM" mark within lozenge, French standard and guarantee marks. (Height: 11.5-inches; 29 oz.t.)

As depicted, silver rim above coconut, ornamented with scratch carving; depicted is Neptune, chariot pulled by seahorses, figure of Hope with anchor, and fully rigged ship under full sail flying British flag. The bowl raised on flared silver base, under which is engraved with initials and March 25, 1797.

A Rare Childs' Handled Silver Cup

Extremely rare for a child of great circumstance in early Boston. The rim is beautifully flared with a gradual and fluid sweep. The applied four-reed C-scroll handle is terminated with a ventilated scroll. The piece is marked TM twice, on the bottom and near the top edge of the cup (Kane mark B.) and of good weight.
